Maintenance Fluid
After a certain period of time, regardless of the precautions for use and the qualities of the cutting fluid, it is
necessary to drain and clean the installation and the machine tanks.
Depending on the volume and condition of the product, two cases can be considered:
- Low volume / Degraded product: the fluid must be destroyed by entrusting it to a specialized company
- Large volume / Compliant product: After analysis of the fluid in the laboratory, it may be possible to reuse the fluid after settling and possible treatment. In this case, ensure that the fluid is stored in a clean
tank while cleaning the installation.
In all cases, cleaning and disinfecting the installations is essential to guarantee the quality of the new fluid and to avoid too frequent oil change.
Adding the cleaning product
Before use, consult the technical data sheet and the safety data sheet of the cleaning product.
Add CONTRAM CB 3 at 2% in the used cutting fluid 24 to 48 hours before emptying. Except in special cases, the
fluid treated allows machining operations to continue.
In all cases, the circulation of the fluid must be maintained to allow the cleaning of the installation.
Emptying & Cleaning of the installation
Drain and clean the bins and the machine as much as possible with cloths or shovels to mechanically remove
as much residue as possible that may still be left in the machine.
If chemical cleaning can effectively clean the installation, it is strongly recommended to combine it with mechanical cleaning in order to remove any pollutants still stuck to the walls or pipes in order to avoid further contamination by fungi or bacteria.
Wear appropriate PPE to avoid micro-cuts and irritation that may occur from contact with microchips and/or prolonged contact with the dirty fluid.
Flushing the system
Fill the tank with clear, clean water and then circulate it through the machine for 1-2 hours. After this time, check
the pH of the water and note any untimely foaming.
If the pH is not in line with that of the mains water (generally around 7.0) and/or if foaming phenomena are encountered during this rinsing, drain the machine and repeat the operation.
Preparation of the mixture
Fill the tank with clear, clean water and then Mixing can be done in several ways:
- manually
- with a Venturi System
- with a volumetric mixing system
MotulTech recommends the use of a volumetric mixing system in order to guarantee the homogeneity and concentration of the metalworking fluid during the set up (see PoK-05 - Preparation of aqueous fluids). A water analysis, carried out in our laboratory, is also recommended when recommending and/or for any change in quality.
Filling with a volumetric mixer
The volumetric dosing system uses the flow and pressure of the water network as the driving force. Water is
used to suck up the concentrated product and dose it to the desired percentage.
- The water and concentrate will then be fed into a mixingnchamber and mixed by the back and forth movement of
the engine piston. - The injected product is always proportional to the volume of water that passes through the dispenser, regardless of
variations in flow or pressure in the network. - The dosage adjustment is made by matching the top of the adjustment ring to the desired graduation on the ruler.
